There are many elements that make a good web site design: appearance, function,
content, and compatibility are just a few. However, the most important
element is USER FRIENDLY.
MAKING IT USER FRIENDLY
Too many designs rely on gimmicks: Flash, active images, pop-up
windows, and so on. While these tricks may make for interesting effects,
and in some cases be beneficial when used properly, in most cases they are
not user friendly. And anything that is not user friendly does not invite
people to return time and time again, something which is crucial to a
successful web site.
At CENLYT, we do not rely on gimmicks. We design your site around the
needs of your visitors. Your site is designed from the point of view of
the visitor and what their expectations may be. If your site is primarily for promoting your catalog, what does a flash intro have to do with that -
nothing. If your site is primarily a source of information, such as the
pages here, flashing graphics/banners or pop-up windows only serve to
distract the visitor making it less likely that they will want to return.
As for the design itself, it is generally based on something of yours
from the "real" world - a catalog or business card for example.
This provides a degree of continuity making it easier for your visitor to
recognize you or your company beyond the Internet.
Additionally, the content of the page plays a major role. If there is
to be a lot of text, certain colors and font sizes should be used. For those pages, black
on white or similar high-contrast colors is recommended.
It's DYNAMIC
Every attempt is made to design your site to automatically adjust to
various screen resolutions. Top is Thermo-Lite Mascots b Mask US at
800(w)x600(h) pixels. Bottom is the same page at 1280x800 pixels.

You can also resize this page in your browser to see it work. MORE
THAN JUST FOR THE INTERNET!
Do you have an Intranet or are you in need of a searchable disk-based
web site that can be used off-line to promote your services or products?
At CENLYT, we can create these too! See

MAKING IT TECHNICALLY FRIENDLY
An aspect too often overlooked
What good is a web site if it is "best viewed using...." or relies
on specific "plug-ins" or requires a visitor to "download
XYZ program to view this page."
As for "best viewed in," while Internet Explorer is currently the
dominate browser, about 75% of the market share, it is not the only one.
While some people may think that not being compatible with 25% of your
potential market is no big deal, we do. We make sure that every design
is compatible with all major browsers1:

| IE 5.01+ |
AOL 5+ |
Netscape 4.61+ |
Opera 6.1+ |

 |
 |
|
| Safari 1.7+ |
Mozilla 0.9.8+ |
Firefox 0.7+ |
|
(See the Support & Download Page if
you would like to download any of these browsers.)
As for plug-ins and needing downloads, not everyone has the necessary
plug-ins or wants to download programs. And in some cases, such as a
person using a computer at a library, they may not be allowed to download
programs. Again, why limit your market. We also make sure that your site
meets the minimum standard for accessibility for the visually impaired. If
necessary and warranted, fully accessible pages can be included.
Other technical things we do includes following the guidelines set
forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (www.w3c.org), the people who make the rules for
HTML, CSS, XML, and so on. Currently, we use HTML 4.01 Transitional EN,
and CSS Version 2 for all designs. We will also make sure your site
complies with the new Preference For Privacy Platform (P3P) initiative if
necessary. This is an issue which is becoming more important to Internet
users. ALL OF THESE ELEMENTS ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION BY US WHEN
DESIGNING YOUR WEB SITE.

Solutions that REACH MORE PEOPLE!
1Though we test web sites in eleven (11) different browser
versions for compatibility and basic functionality, not all features
work in all browsers. For example, if you are viewing this page in
Mozilla, the "floating" layer that appears when your curse over the
Customer Spotlight image will not adjust when the page is scrolled, nor
will it accurately render the border style around the layer. However,
overall, the site appears the same and all necessary functions operate
properly.
